Using the new SOCKS Proxy

Last Updated:

A security update requires all SOCKS users to update their local configuration to utilize the new version of SOCKS Proxy.

Please note: This only applies to users that configured SOCKS prior to ~July 11, 2024

For more info on SOCKS, please see Accessing Internal Tools (via SOCKS Proxy).

Before you begin

As this guide is intended for users needing to update their SOCKS configuration, it is assumed that

  • VTK is already installed

  • SOCKS is already configured

If either of these are not true, please see Accessing Internal Tools (via SOCKS Proxy) to configure SOCKS, at which point this guide will no longer be necessary.

Step-by-step guide

If you’re using vtk (the recommended tool referenced here), this can be done in a single command.

  1. Open your Terminal application.

  2. Type vtk socks setup followed by the Return key.

  3. You will be prompted to Backup and replace your ~/.ssh/config. Press Return for “Yes”.

Your machine should be up to date and now using the new SOCKS Proxy.
